MYTH: Filtered Ductless Fume Hoods are only good for Low Volume Use
TRUTH: Erlab has dedicated over 50 years to molecular air filtration, investing in their R&D to continuously improve their filters and overall retention capacity in their Filtered Ductless Fume Hoods. Today, due to years of research and testing, they have proven documentation of the overall retention capacity that their filters. These filters are able to retain of over 650 chemicals which include solvents and acids. These tests show the overall efficiency of the filter before there has been any detection of concentration. This has shown that it is no greater than 1% of the chemicals TLV.
MYTH: Ducted hoods are cheaper, costing just half that of filtered ductless fume hoods
TRUTH: Overall cost in this case must be considered. There is a huge upfront cost just to connect ducted hoods to the building’s infrastructure. If you account for installation and start-up for both, ductless filtered fume hoods cost about 40% less than a ducted hood.
MYTH: Filter replacements are costly, difficult to dispose of and have to be replace frequently
TRUTH: Erlab filters offer a higher retention capacity and on average only have to be replaced every 2 years. Thus, reducing the overall cost of ownership. Disposal is either done through the companies’ environmental services program or can be shipped directly back to Erlab. Please note: The filters are not deemed “hazardous” as the molecules are adsorbed and are proven through third party testing that there is no leaching which occurs from the filters.
MYTH: There is no way a filtered hood can handle our application
TRUTH: There are several variables that go into determining this, handling frequency, quantity, vapor pressure, molecular weight and heat load. All customer chemical handlings are analyzed by a team of chemists to ensure the filtered hoods are a match for the client’s needs. Once all factors are analyzed a report is provided to the client providing the filters life cycle and guaranteeing user safety per the AFNOR NFX 15.211 standards.
