Increased Reliability with the Panasonic VIP Series Ultra-Low Freezer Dual Compressor

How Does a Dual Compressor increase the reliability of the Panasonic VIP Series Ultra-Low Freezer?

The problem with many ULT freezers is that their manufacturers use standard air conditioner compressors which are not intended to maintain ultra-low temperatures. When an air conditioner compressor is used to cool temperatures beyond its intended design limit, the compressor is stressed and runs too hot. This is the primary reason for freezer failure.

Panasonic, on the other hand, use a dual, purpose-built, compressor configuration, specifically designed to work optimally with their VIP ultra-Low temperature freezers.

Here’s how it actually works:

The freezers use two compressors in a cascade sequence known as the high-stage (A) and the low-stage (B). Both systems work together, running on uniquely designed refrigeration compressors designed to cool themselves as they operate to achieve ultra-low temperatures. The cascade system, borrowing from both high-stage (A) and low-stage (B), loop through the compressor reservoirs (C), thereby cooling the oil and preserving the longevity of the compressors. While the oil lubricates internal bearings, the Panasonic motor shaft (D) pumps an additional cooling oil spray directly to the discharge head (E), significantly reducing discharge temperature.

The result is lower compressor operating temperatures and this, crucially, leads to longer compressor life. Panasonic VIP Series ULT freezers have demonstrated greater than 99% up-time since the introduction of the VIP Series MDF-U76VC-PA freezer. This makes them one of the most reliable and dependable ultra-low freezers on the market.
