Laboratory Freezer Racks

Laboratory freezer racks are designed to safely store frozen products as well as organize your laboratory freezer. They are made out of durable stainless-steel or aluminum material. These materials are used so the racks can withstand temperatures of -20°C, -80°C and -150°C. Laboratory racks are available in upright or vertical configurations. Upright freezer racks are designed for upright laboratory freezers, while the vertical style is designed for chest or cryogenic freezers. These laboratory freezer racks offer a variety of storage options for different laboratory applications. Available options include storage for fiberboard boxes, plastic boxes, conical (centrifuge) tubes, MATRIX boxes, microtiter plates and more.

These storage systems provide many benefits to the user, the products being stored, the cold storage unit itself, as well as energy usage. Benefits of laboratory freezer racks include: improved ergonomics, sample security, maximizing freezer space, energy savings and more. Freezer Storage Racks for Upright Laboratory Freezers

Storage racks for upright laboratory freezers are one of the most common types of racks. The upright racks sit on each freezers shelf. These racks typically offer multiple slots horizontally & vertically in order to maximize freezer storage capacity without jeopardizing sample integrity. Evolving from the standard upright freezer rack is the upright “drawer style” freezer rack. This design offers the same amount of storage as standard racks, but adds convenience with sliding, pull out drawers. The drawer style upright freezer rack is a more ergonomic solution. This type of rack eliminates the need of having to pull the entire rack out of the freezer. Instead, you can pull out one drawer at a time to retrieve your samples.

Vertical Freezer Storage Racks for Chest or Liquid Nitrogen Freezers

Another style of racks are the vertical storage racks, or LN2 racks, which are used primarily for chest style or liquid nitrogen freezers. Since vertical racks need to be pulled up from the chest or ln2 freezer, these types of racks typically include a single, vertical column of storage and are less bulky. These racks are most commonly available in standard styles were the box would typically lay flat (horizontally) in the rack. Another type of vertical rack that is available is the “slim” style vertical freezer racks where the boxes are stored on their sides (vertically). This style also maximizes storage capacity by allowing you to fill in extra spaces where standard vertical racks would not fit. Some vertical laboratory freezer racks come with the option of a locking rod. The locking rod allows for added security that eliminates boxes from sliding out of the racks. Benefits of Laboratory Freezer Racks:

  • Benefits to the User: Laboratory freezer racks provide an ergonomic friendly solution for retrieving samples from the freezer. With pull handles and sliding drawer options, these systems make it easy for the user to get what they need from the freezer without effort.
  • Benefits to the Products Being Stored: These freezer storage systems protect the samples by safely storing them in durable, stainless-steel or aluminum racks. This protects the product being stored by providing a strong casing to prevent damage. These racks also provide organization so priceless research samples or other products aren’t misplaced or lost. Security lock devices are also available which allows only necessary users to access samples.
  • Benefits to the Freezer: With laboratory freezer racks organizing samples, the user has the ability to enter the freezer, retrieve samples as quickly as possible. This results in less time the door has to remain open as well as less frequent door openings. Ultimately this results in less work for the freezer and extending the units lifespan. These storage systems are also specially designed for specific freezers. This allows the freezer racks to fit in each shelf perfectly without any wasted space. Ultimately, this results in a maximized internal storage space which helps the unit perform better. Maximizing your freezer space will also prevent the need for more freezers to be purchased to meet your storage requirements.
  • Lower Energy Usage: Lower energy usage is also a result of utilizing freezer racks. Laboratory freezer storage racks assist with lower door opening times, less frequent door openings and maximize the internal storage space. These 3 factors lead to less work the freezer has to do and less electricity needed for the unit to do its job.
