Ultra-Low Freezer Compressors: TwinGuard Dual Cooling Technology vs. Traditional Cascade System

Refrigerator & freezer compressors are used to pump refrigerant through a circuit to absorb heat from the cabinet, allowing it to maintain a set temperature. All ultra-low temperature freezers use refrigerants and therefore all have compressors to remove heat from the interior cabinet. But not all compressors are alike…

Many ULT Freezers use a traditional cascade refrigeration system. This type of system uses two compressors that operate simultaneously to remove heat (energy) from the interior cabinet out through a condenser. Both compressors must be working, in both the high & low circuits, in order for the temperature to be maintained. This becomes a major problem because if one compressor should stop working, the freezer cannot maintain its ultra-low temperature setting. The traditional cascade system adds risk to the protection of your samples and can ultimately be detrimental to your research.

The PHCbi TwinGuard dual cooling system offers a secure solution to this. The cooling technology for TwinGuard compressors are built with two independent refrigeration circuits. Each circuit has their own compressor, which operate independently of each other. If one of the compressors should fail, the other compressor will start up and keep the freezer running at an ultra-low temperature, saving your valuable samples & vaccines from being ruined. This system also helps increase temperature recovery time after frequent door openings or hotter ambient room temperatures.

PHCbi brand ultra-low temp freezers are known to be one of the most reliable -86°C cold storage systems available for laboratory and clinical applications. TwinGuard ULT freezers are available in 4 sizes from 12.7 to 25.3 cu. ft. and feature upright and chest style units.
